Ancient Apothecary Thyme Essential Oil
For topical, aromatherapy or dietary purposes.
Hippocrates, a Greek health expert of the Age of Pericles, indicated that thyme is an outstanding culinary herb with beneficial uses, including supporting a healthy respiratory system. †
Thyme oil comes from the perennial herb, which is a member of the mint family, and it’s often used for cooking, mouthwashes, potpourri and aromatherapy.
Thyme is native to southern Europe from the western Mediterranean to southern Italy. Due to the herb’s essential oils, it has a number of health benefits; in fact, these benefits have been recognized across the Mediterranean for thousands of years.
Thyme possesses an innate chemistry which helps to support healthy microbial balance and a healthy respiratory system †, but also is a warm, potent oil with other benefits.
And while thyme is a common herb that has a history of being used as a spice or condiment, it also has beneficial properties, due to its health-supporting constituents: alpha thujone, alpha pinene, camphene, beta pinene, para cymene, alpha terpinene, linalool, borneol, beta caryophyllene, thymol and carvacrol.
Historically, thyme was placed beneath pillows to help promote a restful sleep, and was also used in baths for a cleansing, purifying and soothing experience.
