Considered the most distinctively American of all U.S. coin designs, the buffalo nickel celebrates our country's westward expansion. James Earle Fraser used a composite American Indian to create the noble obverse, and depicted bison black diamond on the reverse. The coin was minted from 1913 to 1938.
